Hey guys, this is Brenton and John again for the Marmot dispatch line. We are
back in Chalten getting resupplied. We had a very successful first foray to the north side of Fitz Roy.
We went up on Friday to see what was going on up there; we were very lucky and ran into the world famous Freddy Botour.
Then on Sunday John did a recon to the north side of Fitz Roy for the approach to the French NW ridge; and due to the massive amount of heat/temperature this year and global warming we have seen that side to be entirely too dangerous to approach from.
But on Sunday Freddy and Brenton managed to climb to the summit of Guillaumet. We use that as a beautiful warm up rock climb that involves about 14 pitches of Alpine rock climbing.
Then on Monday the weather seemed to shut down on us - very cold and very windy. So we came back to town for resupply. Starting tomorrow – which I believe is Wednesday - we will start carrying our gear up to east side of Fitz Roy to work on a different approach to the mountain. So we will try to give you another call and another update.
But right now everyone is healthy and we’re having a great time. Love you guys, see you soon. Bye.
